How Does the Trade Out of Poverty Campaign Work?

The TOP campaign is being set up by an all-party group of leading Members of Parliament.

  • John Battle MP (Labour)
  • Menzies Campbell MP (Liberal Democrat)
  • Lord (Michael) Hastings (Independent)
  • Peter Lilley MP (Conservative)
  • Clare Short MP (Independent)

The Trade Out of Poverty campaign will be formally launched in March 2009. It will campaign in the UK, the EU and eventually we hope in many other countries in order to get the Five Aims of the campaign implemented by rich countries to help the world’s poorest people trade their way out of poverty.

The campaign will organise meetings and media activity, directly approach world leaders for support, and develop briefing materials making the case.

We will build partnerships with other campaigning groups, NGOs, charities, churches and other faith groups to work together in the common cause.

This is a huge issue and we have big ambitions to tackle it.
